DID YOU KNOW THAT it's harder for a child to rise out of poverty in charlotte than in any other major U.S. city?

What do you do with a problem so heavy that it might just take the strength of every Charlottean to shift the scales?

Transformation takes time...
Issues that have been perpetuated over decades can't be reversed overnight...
Is there really anything that ONE person... ONE family... ONE community of faith... can do to make a difference?

Experts in our city are convinced that the answer is YES

at watershed, we believe every person is created with inherent Divine WORTHINESS. can you imagine if Charlotte became a city where worthiness was always met with opportunity?

Through Catapult, Watershed has developed partnerships with a handful of local organizations dedicated to empowering Charlotte's most disenfranchised youth. Our dream is to see every household in our community band together to help tip the scales towards equity and opportunity. Express interest below, and we'll help you find the best way to plug in!

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS MENTORING: BBBS's Mentorship Program (ages K-12) focuses on Bigs and Littles building a relationship outside of school. Bigs and Littles engage in whatever sorts of outings and activities they enjoy doing together. BBBS facilitates the initial relationship between Bigs and Littles and their families and serves as an ongoing support. BBBS also sponsors several monthly activities for Littles and Bigs to attend!

URBAN PROMISE HIGH SCHOOL MENTORING: Through UP's Mentorship Program, a mentor will be paired with a high school StreetLeader who has similar career and life ambitions. UP provides mentors the structure and guidance necessary to establish and carry out a caring relationship with a teenager through monthly mentor trainings and ongoing communication with program staff.  In addition to monthly trainings, UP mentors are encouraged to meet with their mentees 1+ time/month.

HEART MATH TUTORING: Heart provides a fun, structured way to build relationships with students while delivering academic skills crucial to their success. The relationship you will build by supporting the same student each week has a tremendous positive impact, and you and your student will enjoy working together to accomplish math goals throughout the year. Time slots (30 or 60 minutes) are available at most schools M-Th during morning or lunch hours.

GIRLS ON THE RUN COACHINGWarm-up your spirit fingers, lace up your sneakers and inspire a group of girls to be strong and healthy! Volunteer coaches facilitate GOTR's easy-to-follow curriculum with small groups of girls over the course of 10-12 weeks. Watershed is excited to facilitate Heart & Sole teams at East Way Middle School starting in February 2019! The teams will meet on Monday and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30PM, and coaches can choose one day or both to volunteer.

URBAN PROMISE TEACHING: During UP's AfterSchool Program, K-5 students have the opportunity to choose an “Options Class” to attend, where they will develop a life skill they might not otherwise have the chance to learn. Possible skills might include cooking, fitness, gardening, dance, art, music, or LEGO robotics. An “Options Teacher” volunteer designs a 10-week course for K-5 students around a skill of their choice. Options courses are on Wednesdays from 5:15-6:15PM during a fall semester or a spring semester.

FOSTER VILLAGE CLT PARENTS NIGHT OUT TEAM: Foster Village hosts quarterly Foster Parent's Night Out evenings at Watershed and they are always looking for extra helpers with a desire to love on children. Help every quarter or pitch in whenever you're able!

FOSTER VILLAGE CLT WELCOME PACK TEAM: One of FVC's goals is to provide a Welcome Pack to all foster families within 24-48 hours of receiving a new foster placement. Welcome Packs include age-appropriate basic necessities as well as comfort items to get a child through the first few days. Welcome Pack Team volunteers help sustain FVC's Welcome Pack Program by bi-annually coordinating donation drives around the city with local churches, groups, and organizations. They also drive to pick up donations in FVC's storage unit and deliver to foster homes around the Charlotte area.
